Our client, a growing structural engineering firm serving diverse residential, commercial, and industrial construction projects, is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Structural Drafter in the Charlotte, NC area. This full-time position offers the opportunity to work on a variety of exciting projects and directly contribute to the successful delivery of construction documents. The primary responsibility of this role is to help our structural engineers translate their designs into detailed and accurate construction drawings for diverse project types, with a significant focus on light-frame wood construction.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Construction Documentation: Generate accurate and comprehensive construction documents using Revit, ensuring clear and concise detailing of structural elements for residential, commercial, and industrial projects.
  • Collaboration with Engineers: Work closely with structural engineers to understand design intent, specifications, and calculations, ensuring accurate representation in the drawings.
  • Light-Frame Wood Expertise: Utilize extensive knowledge of light-frame wood construction methods and detailing practices to produce high-quality drawings.
  • Drawing Review and Coordination: Review shop drawings and other submittals for conformance with construction documents. Coordinate with other disciplines (architectural, MEP) to ensure drawing consistency and identify potential conflicts.
  • Software Proficiency: Utilize Revit and BlueBeam extensively for drawing production, markups, and document management. Maintain a strong understanding of software capabilities and best practices.
  • Standards and Codes: Adhere to company drafting standards, relevant building codes, and project-specific requirements in the preparation of construction documents.
  • Problem Solving: Identify and resolve drafting-related issues and discrepancies in a timely and effective manner.
  • Project Management Assistance: Assist with the organization and management of drawing sets and revisions.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay updated on industry best practices and software advancements to enhance drafting efficiency and quality.


Requirements:

  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in structural drafting, with a strong portfolio demonstrating experience in a variety of project types, including residential, commercial, and industrial construction.
  • Light-Frame Wood Expertise: Proven experience and a thorough understanding of detailing light-frame wood structures are essential.
  • Software Proficiency: Expert-level proficiency in Revit is required. Strong working knowledge of BlueBeam for document review and collaboration is also necessary.
  • Technical Skills: Solid understanding of structural drawings, symbols, and detailing conventions. Familiarity with different structural materials (wood, steel, concrete, masonry) and their representation in drawings.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) to effectively interact with engineers and other project team members. Ability to follow instructions and ask clarifying questions.
  • Attention to Detail: A strong focus on accuracy and detail in all aspects of drawing production.
  • Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to identify and resolve drafting-related issues independently.
