We are seeking a diligent and safety-conscious Derrick Digger to join our construction team based out of St. Petersburg, Florida. This is a hands-on, boots-on-the-ground role where you'll directly operate a derrick truck to dig holes, set poles, and perform related tasks for various utility construction projects, including power lines, telecommunications, and street lighting. The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical aptitude, strict adherence to safety protocols, and the ability to work effectively as part of a crew in diverse outdoor conditions across Florida.

Requirements:

Key Responsibilities:

• Operate derrick digger trucks to precisely drill holes of specified depths and diameters for the installation of utility poles and anchors.
• Assist with the safe loading, unloading, and setting of utility poles using the derrick and other specialized equipment.
• Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the derrick truck and all associated equipment, accurately complete daily maintenance logs.
• Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on equipment as needed, promptly reporting any major mechanical issues to the supervisor.
• Collaborate effectively with ground crew members, including lineworkers and other equipment operators, to ensure efficient and safe project execution.
• Strictly adhere to all company safety policies, procedures, and relevant OSHA regulations.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area and equipment at all times.
• Proactively identify potential hazards and communicate them to the foreman or supervisor immediately.
• Assist with other general labor duties on job sites as required to support project completion.
• Operate other heavy equipment as needed and certified (e.g., excavators, trenchers).

Work Schedule & Travel

This role typically involves 48-50 hours per week (5am-2pm), which may include some Saturdays and occasional Sundays. Our projects are located throughout Florida, and you will be paid for drive time from the St. Petersburg office to the job sites.

Required Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience operating with a Valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with an air brake endorsement is required.
  • Derrick digger truck in utility construction or a related field strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Terex Derrick Diggers is highly desired, as this is the equipment we primarily use.
  • A clean driving record is essential.
• Solid understanding of utility construction practices, terminology, and safety standards.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and effective problem-solving skills.
• Ability to accurately read and interpret construction blueprints, diagrams, and specifications.
• Willingness and ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, including extreme heat and inclement weather.
• Ability to lift heavy objects (up to 75 lbs) and perform strenuous physical labor consistently.
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification preferred.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and physical.
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Must reside within a 1-hour daily commute of our St. Petersburg, Florida office.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
